“… our only business [is] to love and delight ourselves in God.”
– Brother Lawrence
Everything else we deem important (faith, hope, ministry, miracles, service, theology, grace, mercy, etc) will naturally flow from this kind of life; and do so with the degrees of importance according to the One who has established it.
In other words: Our opinions, our works, our doctrines, our plans don’t matter.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33 NLT)
This goes beyond just the provision of the physical needs, and reaches our spiritual and emotional needs as well. I find that I give higher priority than necessary to many issues/ideas/items/insecurities, and the result is a reduction in the priority of the Father.
Maybe it is a true lack of trusting Him, and a fear of complete abandonment and disregard for all things not Him. The dominant thought, then is: We must make ourselves known, we must strive to be recognized, sound smart, appear important, look good…
Lord, help me to be about the business of YOU! And may I count my life as nothing, so I don’t become important in my own eyes. May I strive to trust you more.
Going to work…
