… the thoughts from a life in the Son-shine State

God doesn’t need you.

It’s true.

If He did, He wouldn’t be God.

The minute we think we are indispensable to the kingdom of God is the minute we think too highly of ourselves, and too lowly of the God we serve.

That’s why this whole thing is so amazing!

The fact that He wants to use us… it’s mind-blowing!

I have done nothing to deserve being a part of the story God is writing, yet, He says, “Come, follow me… I will grant you salvation, set you free, restore your heart back to mine, transform your mind, and equip you with my power to reach the world with this same message… the message of hope.” (That’s the one-sentence Steve paraphrase of the New Testament… sort of.)

The only ones indispensable are the Triune Godhead: Father, Son , and Holy Spirit. Everyone else must sign on and walk in obedience.

Today, I know many people doing great works for the kingdom of God that feel strongly they were the second choice. Yes, the ones before them gave up, or were disqualified due to disobedience, moral failure, selfish gain, etc.

Let’s walk humbly before the Lord (Micah 6:8), not think too highly of ourselves (Philippians 2:4), and remember that if it were not for the grace of God, I would still be on the outside looking in.

Less of me, more of Him

It’s All Him!

Day 5 of Thanksgiving Week (Thanksgiving Day), and I am so thankful for God’s provision!

God has been so good to us, and He has provided all of our needs! Many times God’s provision was miraculous; and we never want to take for granted that He will provide. It’s easy to flippantly expect that He will just do it. Is there is expectation? Yes, based on the Word of God.

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
2 Corinthians 9:8

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:33

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

But it must never be taken for granted. This is why we work. This is why we budget. This is why we give generously. It is because He has provided it, whether miraculously or by giving us the ability to work for it. He has provided good health, transportation, jobs, etc. All we are responsible to do is be faithful and obedient to His plans and leading. He is the Boss, the Chief, the Head. We humbly submit ourselves to Him, and a result is provision, because He is a good Father that knows how to provide for His children! (Matthew 7:7-11)

Today, I am so, so extremely, beyond-understandingly thankful to God!

So blessed…

Steve
